Critical Librarianship & the Bibliographic Legacies of John Hope Franklin
A Session by Frederic Murray (Academic Librarian, Southwestern Oklahoma State University)
About this Session
Championing intellectual freedom and social justice is integral to the work of libraries. Critical Librarianship posits that to serve our communities of practice, stripping away foundational myths of neutrality is essential and ethical. This session will focus on identifying and promoting elements of Critical Librarianship that can be used in library collections, news literacy, and multicultural programming. Particular focus will be given to the dynamic bibliographic legacies of John Hope Franklin. As centers of scholarship Oklahoma Libraries are uniquely placed to provide resources & campus wide programming for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial. This session will define those opportunities.
