A Fish out of Water: Being and Supporting Black Librarians in the Sciences
A Session by Mea Warren , Carl Leak and Trevor Watkins
About this Session
While librarianship is a predominately white field, black librarians can feel even more alienated if they have to support the sciences, which also has few minority faculty and students, and even fewer of whom are black. Many librarians may also lack the background of a science major in their undergraduate degree or little experience working with scientists before being assigned or taking on the role as a liaison to science departments. This panel session will discuss the struggles a new black librarian in this role may face and how to alleviate the stress of taking on this role.
